Wayne Rooney: Birmingham City sack manager after just 15 games in charge - BBC Sport

Birmingham City will officially launch their new naming rights deal with a concert from iconic Birmingham band UB40 on April 1.

Blues have renamed their stadium St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park under the new naming rights deal with owners Knighthead. The multi-year agreement is said to be the most valuable commercial deal in Blues’ history and could net the club in excess of £25million if all performance targets are met.

And it has now been announced that the game against Preston North End on Easter Monday, April 1, will be followed by an hour-long concert from UB40. UB40 haven’t played at St Andrew’s since 1989.

Supporters who attend the game will be allowed to watch the concert free of charge and the band will be positioned on a pre-built stage behind the goal in the Gil Merrick lower. Season ticket holders will automatically be able to attend, with tickets going on sale on March 18.

Knighthead are trying to improve Blues’ revenue streams and are keen to bring large scale non-football events to Birmingham. This event will be the first time that has happened at St Andrew’s since the American-based investment firm took control of the club last summer.

Blues’ CEO Garry Cook commented: “St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park on Monday 1 April is going to be a celebration of Birmingham – the city’s football team and its favourite band UB40. We are delighted to be able to offer our fans a free concert of this stature to celebrate our new naming rights partnership.
