Given his skills, Zverev should be a good grass player. Despite his size, he moves fairly well and serves with power. Even so, the German hasn’t really had much success on the surface, losing early a lot of the time, even at bigger events. He just had a fantastic Roland Garros, so maybe things will work out for the best. The Halle Open has been a spot he returns frequently, and the current year’s functioning out lovely well for him. He added yet another victory to his first match here, which he won without too many issues. Lorenzo Sonego is an interesting rival who can demonstrate extreme to beat on the right day. He was strong in this match, yet not adequate for Zverev, who did barely to the point of keeping it in two sets. The first opened impeccably for Zverev, who broke the Italian in the main game, after which he could basically zero in on keeping his serve. He didn’t drop his serve from the beginning in the set yet rather kept it, which pointed towards a tiebreak, and we got it. There simply wasn’t enough dominance between them on their serves for it to go either way. Zverev began gravely, falling behind 0-3, yet he got serious rapidly to make it 4-3. The German stayed focused after that and won the match 7-5 to stay in two sets.
