It came as a genuine surprise that Kurt Zouma was able to pass his medical to join Al Orobah on loan. The Frenchman’s repeated knee injuries have always had a massive effect on his West Ham playing career, but over the last season things deteriorated quickly.
“Starting role” | JOHNSON SET FOR DEAL | 5 year contract…
In preseason, it quickly came apparent that he was no longer physically capable of playing at a Premier League club, and the Hammers therefore spent much of the Summer looking for somewhere to offload their former captain.
After one deal fell through due to a failed medical, it was a real relief to see him complete a move to the Middle East. Although this is only a year long loan, his contract expires at the end of the season so we have seen the last of him in claret and blue.
Following his departure, Zouma delivered a farewell message to fans via social media. “Yo West Ham fans,” he wrote. “It’s time for me to say goodbye. It has been a huge pleasure to be part of the success of this amazing club.”
wanted to say thank you to everyone who has helped me throughout my time here! Big thank you to all the fans for your support. I will miss you All! You’ll be forever my Family”
The first couple of seasons our Irons had him, he was an unstoppable unit. Unfortunately, it was always going to reach a point where he wasn’t able to continue playing at the top level due to his knees, it’s just a shame it happened sooner rather than later.
