Raiders’ Maxx Crosby can make big jump up franchise sacks list in 2024
Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby has been one of the very best at his position in the NFL since entering the league as a fourth-round pick in the 2019 draft.
Crosby started his career off with a bang, tallying 10 sacks during a rookie campaign that saw him finish second in the Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.
In the last three years, all of which have seen him earn a Pro Bowl nod, Crosby has really cemented himself among the league’s elite, totaling 35 sacks in that span, including a career-high 14.5 in 2023.
After last year’s impressive showing, Crosby now has 52 sacks over five seasons, placing him at No. 9 in sacks in franchise history. But, he could end up as high as No. 3 after the 2024 campaign is all said and done.
Crosby would need 10 sacks to tie him with Ben Davidson (62) for third all-time, and 10.5 to pass him, which is certainly doable after he’s crossed that mark in each of the last two years. From there, Crosby would have work to do to reach the top of the list.
Assuming he finishes with 10.5 sacks in 2024 and reaches 62.5 for his career, Crosby would be 29 shy of Howie Long (91.5), who is No. 2, and 45 shy of Greg Townsend (107.5), who is No. 1.
Crosby can realistically reach Townsend in as little as five years if averages 11.1 sacks per year from 2024 through 2028. Making his prospects even better, Crosby will be 27 this season, so he’ll have more than five years to get there.
One way or the other, Crosby reaching the top of the Raiders’ all-time sacks list feels inevitable. But first things first: he’s got to get to the top three, which could happen in 2024.
